After Spicer's resignation, Priebus said he supports Scaramucci "100 percent", according to news reports.

"I will continue my service through August", he added.

Shortly after reports that Scaramucci accepted the position began circulating, curious Twitter users handled the news the only logical way, by delving deep into Scaramucci's online past. The 45-year-old Republican strategist was also the acting Communications Director, after the resignation of Mike Dubke from the post in late May.

Spicer and Rebecca married in Washington, D.C.in November 2004 in a ceremony presided over by both an Episcopalian reverend and a Roman Catholic priest, according to an announcement that ran in The New York Times.

Scaramucci had been considered for several other roles by the Trump since taking office, but has been stuck in limbo for months. Others said he was simply disliked by certain White House staffers - specifically, chief of staff Reince Priebus. He is also responsible for organizing key presidential addresses including the annual State of the Union Address before Congress.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders was named White House press secretary Friday, hours after Sean Spicer resigned from the position.

"We talk to all major players", a Fox News spokesperson told BuzzFeed News on Friday afternoon when asked if the network would be interested in hiring Spicer.

Spicer has always been a fixture of the Washington political establishment, previously serving as the spokesman for the Republican National Committee.

Celebrities took to social media on Friday to reflect on Mr Spicer's tumultuous term and question what his departure could mean for Melissa McCarthy, who impersonates him on sketch show Saturday Night Live. "I'm a business person, I'm used to dealing with friction", he said.

In April Spicer apologized for making an "inappropriate and insensitive" statement comparing Adolf Hitler to Syrian President Bashar Assad by suggesting Hitler "didn't even sink to using chemical weapons". "If you're Russian Federation, you have to ask yourself if this is a country and regime that you want to align yourself with". As any student of history knows, millions of Jews were killed in gas chambers during the Holocaust.

Spicer's tenure got off to a rocky start. Some Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, called on Spicer to resign.

President Donald Trump has had issues with Spicer's press briefings since his first one when the president ordered him to refute claims his inauguration had smaller crowds than former President Barack Obama's.
