A six-year-old girl has died after she was shot in the neck in Sydney's west.

"It is tragic for the family and it is tragic for the police and other emergency services who attend these scenes".

[7 News] reports the toddler was at home with her mother and three brothers, aged between three and eight.

Another neighbour said the scene was chaotic with the mother and father distraught.

"She was just saying it was his fault, he shouldn't have had a gun in the house".

The 43-year-old appeared before Blacktown Local Court and did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
