According to numerous reports in the English press tonight, Arsenal have rejected a massive £50 million offer from Manchester City for star man Alexis Sanchez.

Manchester City are determined to sign Sanchez before the transfer window closes.

Sanchez, who signed from Barcelona in 2014, has scored 53 goals in 103 appearances for the Gunners but only has one year left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

It is also claimed that Sanchez is unhappy at Arsenal and wants to make the move to link up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Arsenal have rebuffed all approaches for Sanchez, and would like City's Raheem Sterling as part of any deal before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The 22-year-old England worldwide has featured in all three of City's opening games.

Having a player of Alexis Sanchez's caliber would be key for Arsenal as it looks to get back into the Champions League places after finishing sixth last season. Although Wenger has continually stated he won't sell Sanchez, he could be swayed by receiving both Sterling and a large fee believed to be in the region of £60m.

And, if the move goes through, Cross fears it could spark an almighty backlash from Gunners fans, who are already raging after the team's dismal 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

But Arsenal said a deal for the 24-year-old England midfielder was not agreed.
