Iran claims new United States sanctions breach nuclear deal

These Iran sanctions are a threat to the nuclear agreement and give Donald Trump new tools to significantly escalate tensions in the Middle East. Trump has made no secret of his intent to exit the Iran nuclear agreement, regardless of the enormous costs to US interests.

Unlike the previous u.s. administration of Barack Obama, Donald Trump has adopted a hostile attitude to Iran and has strongly criticised the nuclear deal.

He was referring to the agreement, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), by its acronym.

The tests do not violate the nuclear agreement, which eased or ended many punitive economic sanctions on Iran in return for its verifiable pledges of peaceful nuclear work.

But the ceremony came less than 24 hours after US President Donald Trump confirmed fresh sanctions against Iran.

"The United States will continue to raise this issue of Iranian non-compliance with global obligations at every opportunity".

"The US' main goal for imposing the sanctions against Iran is to destroy the JCPOA and we will react very intelligently to these measures،" said Araghchi.

"The Simorgh is a space launch vehicle that, if configured as a ballistic missile, would have a range of well over 300 kilometres (185 miles) and has enough payload capacity to carry a nuclear warhead", the letter to the UN Security Council read.

President Hassan Rouhani, according Iranian accounts, would soon announce the sanctions to relevant ministries.

Her letter, written on behalf of the United States, France, Germany, and Britain, called on the council to "discuss appropriate responses" against Tehran for its "provocative action".
