Jaguars unlikely to let OT Branden Albert return

  • 0:37 | NFL Jaguars' Branden Albert Will Report to Training Camp After Announcing Retirement Last Week

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because neither side has publicly discussed details about Albert's potential return. He participated in the first three practices and was in the facility working out on fourth day of camp.

Placing Albert on the reserve/retired list means his contract is paused, and the Jaguars retain his rights. It's possible the 32-year-old overplayed his hand, as Albert had openly expressed a desire to work out a new contract with the Jags prior to retiring.

It was never clear why Albert chose to walk away after nine National Football League seasons. First, he refused to show up to OTAs or minicamp before reporting for the first day of training camp only to "retire" three days into it after he was getting his butt kicked by the Jaguars' younger linemen.

He skipped all of the offseason conditioning programs for the Jaguars and the team's organized activities due to wanting to sign a new deal with the team.

Border Police personnel killed, 7 injured in Taliban attack
The audacity of Tuesday evening's attack, barely 50 meters (150 feet) from a police station, set off protests the following day. Mohammad Dawood, spokesman for the National Directorate of Security, said the attacks on checkpoints were all beaten back.

Albert was in a competition to start at left tackle with Cam Robinson a rookie, who Jacksonville drafted with the No. 34 pick overall. He still owes the Jaguars two more seasons - with salaries of $8.875 million and $9.575 million - and the team has the first option for Albert's services if he does decide to play again.

The Jaguars acquired Albert in a trade with the Dolphins in March. The Jaguars quickly turned to the next man up, Robinson, although the procedural move was to place the veteran on the exempt/left team list, which gave Albert a five-day window to return.

Albert had two years remaining on the five-year contract he signed with Miami in 2014. Albert missed 20 games over the last five seasons, including seven in 2014 because of a knee injury.
