  • After Three Hours Nationals Finally Admit That Game With Giants Is Postponed

The Nationals placed right fielder Bryce Harper on the 10-day disabled list with a "significant bone bruise" in his left knee, the team announced Sunday.

According to Robert Flores of MLB Network, Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo called the setback a bone bruise while noting Harper avoided ligament and tendon damage in the knee. Harper needed help off the field and appeared unable to put pressure on his leg. Harper's leg buckled, he went airborne, and he fell to the ground as his helmet went flying.

When Harper left the stadium, he was walking on his own power in the Nationals' clubhouse around 1:45 a.m. Sunday morning after a 3-1 win by the Nationals over the San Francisco Giants. Boasting a 14.5 game lead in the NL East, Washington can afford to take it slow with Harper from here on out. He struck out five batters, walked one and surrendered five base hits, including a solo home run by second baseman Joe Panik in the first inning.

Parker, from nearby Stafford, Va., singled in the first inning in his first-ever at-bat at Nationals Park.

ANGELS 6, MARINERS 3 Luis Valbuena's two-run home run in the seventh inning pulled visiting Los Angeles even, Albert Pujols added a two-run double in the eighth and the Angels rallied for a victory over Seattle.

The injury to Harper opens up playing time in the outfield but would present a hard challenge if he's not ready by the start of the post-season.

Harper clutched at his left knee after going down and was attended to by trainers. It'll be Matt Moore and right-hander Max Scherzer in the nightcap.
