  • Trump Jr. to testify in Senate, Manafort lawyer subpoenaed: CNN

Donald Trump Jr. told Senate investigators Thursday that he met with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 election to find out what information she had about Hillary Clinton's "fitness, character or qualifications" for office but that nothing came of the meeting.

In July, the Judiciary Committee initially called on Trump testify about Russia's attempted meddling in the election, but Trump Jr. and Manafort made a deal with the committee to avoid a public hearing, paving the way for a transcribed interview in private.

He said that at the meeting, the Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya "began telling the group very generally something about individuals connected to Russia supporting or funding Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton or the Democratic National Committee".

Investigators are focusing on a June 2016 meeting the younger Trump held in the midst of the campaign at Trump Tower in NY, the president's business and political campaign headquarters.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating that meeting, also attended by Trump's son-in-law and campaign chairman. Instead, this dummy gleefully put Donald Trump's campaign manager and senior advisor on the email chain and sent out an Outlook invite.

Senate aides also could pursue other possible connections that the president's family had with Russian Federation.

Co-founder of Fusion GPS Glenn Simpson met with committee staff on August 22. A year later, when the New York Times reported on this meeting, the president himself dictated a misleading statement on why the meeting was held in the first place.

UN Confirms Syrian Government's Chemical Weapon Attacks
In late August, a USA intelligence report says with "high confidence" that Syria's government carried out the attack. Twenty seven were by the government of President Bashar al-Assad, including seven between March 1 to July 7.

Feinstein said she and Grassley agreed to subpoena Trump Jr. and Manafort if they don't agree to attend a to-be-scheduled public hearing.

After that, Trump Jr.'s explanation for the meeting changed three times, ultimately settling on: He took the meeting to receive "very high level and sensitive information" that was "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

Trump's statement that he planned to seek help from his lawyers "suggests that he knew, or at least suspected, that accepting potentially damaging information about a rival campaign from a foreign country raised thorny legal issues", The Times wrote. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., sat in on the meeting.

In addition to detailing the timing of phone calls and emails leading up to the meeting, Trump Jr. also provided additional explanations of why he can't be sure about certain parts of his recollection.

The letter was signed by the committee chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., who stepped back from the Russian Federation investigation this year after he was criticized for being too close to the White House.

The meeting at Trump Tower in NY, in which the campaign team was promised dirt on Donald Trump's rival Hillary Clinton, was also attended by Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort.
