In the aftermath of the crash, which saw the vehicle mount the pavement, police said that it "is not being treated as a terror-related incident" and instead as a road traffic collision.

A man arrested after his auto ploughed into pedestrians in London's museum district, injuring 11 people and sparking fears of a terror attack, was released from custody on Sunday (Oct 8), police said.

"Police have asked people to avoid the area while their inquiries continue", he said.Eyewitnesses said that police rushed into each bar and restaurant in the area and told people to get out.

"The majority of those injured have now been discharged, and there are no serious injuries", police said in a statement Sunday.

A 47-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of unsafe driving and taken to hospital for treatment, along with eight other people.

The incident in Exhibition Road, south Kensington, which occurred at about 2.20pm on Saturday, left 11 people injured and prompted a major security alert, although the Met later said it was not terrorist-related.

The Natural History Museum is the fourth most popular tourist attraction in the United Kingdom, with 4.6 million visits during 2016, according to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions. One man was detained overnight, but authorities later said the incident was not terror-related.
