  • Man Helps Kidnapped Girl and Gives Her His $7000 Reward

A man who helped a United States teenager in her dramatic escape from three kidnappers has given his reward money of about $9,000 (£6,800) to her and her family.

On Sept. 5, Earl Melchert stopped by his home momentarily to pick up something he'd forgotten.

The 15-year-old was abducted on August 8 and taken to a home where police said three men sexually assaulted her and held her captive for 29 days, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported.

At an event at the Alexandria Police Department last Friday, Melchert was able to see Jasmine for the first time since her rescue.

Of Melchert, she added that she and her family view him as a hero.

Although some news sources have identified the 15-year-old girl, The Washington Post is withholding her name because she is the victim of alleged sexual assault. Jasmine had fled from an empty foreclosed home on a nearby lake, swimming part of the lake to escape and find Melchert.

"I could make out her face, and I went, 'Oh my gosh, this is the gal from Alexandria that's been gone for 29 days, '" Melchert said, according to The New York Times. Police say she had been had been abducted and held against her will by three men for almost one month before escaping the afternoon of September 5. She's probably the strongest person I have ever known'.

Melchert gave it to Block.

Her family posted the reward money seeking information about her whereabouts along with an anonymous donor.

Amazingly, Jasmine was even able to help the police seize her perpetrators by identifying their vehicle nearby.

Meeting for the first time on Friday, the teen's mother, Sarah Block, said Elchert was Jasmine's much-needed hero that day.

"The reward money means absolutely nothing to me", he told Block's mother, Sarah Block.

'We wanted to thank him.

"The family needs the money".

"I want to help people now", he said.

"To me, yeah, that's a lot of money, but they need it way worse than I do", he said. "He risked a lot of things and put himself in danger".

Barker and two friends, Steven Powers and Joshua Holby, allegedly threatened the girl and assaulted her on multiple occasions. "You guys deserve it, and I think it's going to the best place it can go".

Melchert told The Voice of Alexandria that the experience has made him look at things differently. He is said to have told her that he needed help with a family emergency.

The three suspects have since been located and charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct, assault and false imprisonment, Fox News reported.
