  • Report: “Let's Make a Deal” host Monty Hall passes away at 96

Hall died as a result of heart failure Saturday in his home in Beverly Hills, California.

Born Monty Halparin in Winnipeg, Canada, as a child he was severely burned by a pot of boiling water and spent a year out of school.

The family of Monty Hall estimates that the entertainer raised almost a billion dollars over the years for various charities.

"Let's Make a Deal" became a part of American pop culture, with Hall one of the most recognizable stars on TV.

Hall would offer contestants a modest prize, then give them a chance to trade it for a mystery prize hidden by a curtain, stashed in a big box or concealed behind door No. 1, door No. 2 or door No. 3. But bitten by the stage bug thanks to appearances in student shows, he left for NY.

He said the insurgents mined the area around the base to prevent authorities from sending in reinforcements. Shortly after, the Islamic State also claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq News Agency.

"Let's Make a Deal" was Hall's brainchild along with his business partner, Stefan Hatos.

Wherever and whenever the game show aired, its concept was a constant: Players, known as "traders", were given a moderate prize and offered the opportunity to trade it for an unknown prize. His late wife, Marilyn, who was also his distant cousin, was a producer. The tradition of zany costumes evolved as the show continued, and contestants vied in more absurd fashion to attract Hall's attention.

When a People magazine interviewer suggested in 1996 that "Let's Make a Deal" would be his epitaph, Hall replied, with a wince: "You put that on my tombstone, and I'll kill you".

The long-time host was also well-known for his charity work, including work with Variety Clubs International and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She died earlier this year.

He is survived by his two daughters Sharon Hall, Joanna Gleason and son Richard who have made their own mark in the entertainment industry.
