Officials of a MS school named after Confederate president Jefferson Davis plan to change the school's title to one commemorating the former president of the United States.

Politically correct leftists scored yet another victory this week when a school that was named after Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy, was renamed after Barack Obama. The entire enrollment of the JPS system is roughly 97 percent black.

State rankings show the magnet school is the top academic performer of all elementary and middle schools in Mississippi. "We really wanted to know what they thought", she said.

Former President Barack Obama speaks in NY on September 20. Parents, students and school staff were given two weeks to submit recommendations, and they voted using paper ballots on October 5. Students from each class at the school gave presentations on their favorite pick. Critics of the school names and statues say they are accolades to the region's racist past, while supporters assert they represent history and should be preserved.

Last month, the episcopal church that Confederate commander Robert E. Lee attended when he was president of Washington and Lee College in Lexington, Virginia even voted to change its name from the Robert E. Lee Memorial Church back to its original title, the Grace Episcopal Church.

The students chose Obama because they were alive during his administration and felt that he shared their principles, Jefferson said. Erasing history only makes it easier for history to repeat itself, which makes moves like this one all the more unsafe.

Johnson said the name of the school would change in the 2018-2019 school year. Most have predominantly black student bodies.

"I wholeheartedly agree with the name", said Board President Camille Simms. There is no more information as to when the other two schools will be renamed or who they might be named after.
