  • How did Russia know to exploit race on FB

Senate Intelligence Committee leaders warned Wednesday that Russian Federation may be planning further attempts to influence USA politics by meddling in upcoming elections in November and 2018. "We've got a tremendous amount of documents still to go through". He did not elaborate, except to say that the committee had not come to any conclusions and that the investigation is ongoing.

While Burr sidestepped questions about whether the Russians were trying to help Trump, one of the conclusions the intelligence community found, he warned that the efforts to interfere are still ongoing and must be addressed ahead of the next round of U.S. elections later this year and in 2018.

"The committee can not really decide the credibility of the dossier without understanding things like, who paid for it?"

So far, the committee has held 11 open hearings, conducted over 100 interviews spanning more than 250 hours, delved into 4,000 pages of transcripts and analyzed almost 100,000 pages of documents, including highly classified intelligence and cyber security briefings as well as campaign-related files.

Facebook didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on why it won't release the ads it said were created to stir division in the U.S. before and after the 2016 presidential election. "We believe that the american people deserve to know firsthand".

Burr said he had a message for witnesses who are reluctant to speak to the committee: "If you don't voluntarily do it, I can assure you today, you will be compelled to do it".

"We have more work to do as it relates to collusion, but we are developing a clearer picture of what happened", Burr added, emphasizing that no final conclusions have been made by the intelligence panel.

Afghan forces responded to the attack, which both the Taliban and a regional ISIS affiliate (ISIS-K) claimed as their own. Thousands of troops are already arriving in Afghanistan, it will bring the total to more than 14,000 troops.

The committee chairman, Republican senator Richard Burr, said it remained an "open question" whether there was collusion by the Trump campaign with Moscow.

But content of the 3,000 Facebook adverts linked to Russian Federation will not be publicly released.

Maybe it could be this year, but at the latest Burr said he wants it to appear before next year's congressional midterm elections.

"We still believe there needs to be a more aggressive, whole of government approach", Warner said.

But he added that it "had hit a wall" in its efforts to talk to Christopher Steele, the former United Kingdom intelligence officer whose reports on allegations of active collusion involving Trump himself have become part of the continuing investigations being conducted by the Senate, House of Representatives, and the special counsel, Robert Mueller.

More recently investigators for the committee and the House Intelligence Committee have sharpened their attention on Russia's use of social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. Mark Warner, D-Virginia, asserted that they won't discuss their committee's specific initial Russian Federation investigation findings, they said that the results thus far have caused the inquiry to expand "slightly".

But Facebook does plan to testify in a public hearing alongside Google and Twitter on November 1 about Russia's use of social media to influence elections and the disclosure of political advertising online, the person said. "The committee can not really decide the credibility of the dossier without understanding things like who paid for it, who are your sources and sub-sources", Burr added.
