  • Former Manchester City star Robinho sentenced to nine years in prison

Brazilian footballer Robinho has reportedly been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault.

The ex-Brazil worldwide, alongside five others, were convicted in Italy this evening for the gang-rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman. The married forward along with five other men have been charged.

The Brazilian has the right of appeal and the sentence will not be enforced until that process has been completed, according to Sky Sports.

Robinho had previously been accused of sexual assault during his City days, but was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing.

Now playing for Atletico Mineiro in his native Brazil, Robinho's lawyer said in a statement that the 33-year-old Robinho denied the charges and will appeal the court's decision.
