Events are now accelerating as events like these will. Mitch McConnell has called on Moore to drop out of the race if the allegations are true.
An Alabama candidate for the US Senate is strongly denying allegations that he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl.
The Washington Post alleged that Moore committed inappropriate sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl in 1979 and that he had relationships with three other young women - though all three of them were of legal age, and said there had been no sexual contact with Moore. None of the women say that Moore forced them into any sort of relationship or sexual contact. The details of the story were "obtained" by Breitbart after the Post reached out to Moore and his campaign for comment on the story.
The campaign released a statement Thursday after The Washington Post reported the Alabama Republican candidate had sexual contact with one teenager and pursued three others almost four decades ago.
While Alabama law prohibits the withdrawal of a candidate within 76 days of an election, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski has reportedly spoken to Senator Luther Strange, Moore's primary opponent, about running as a write-in candidate in next month's special election.

"I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldn't want to vote for Doug", Pow said.

But Alabama election law appears to indicate, with little ambiguity, that the deadline has passed for candidates to be replaced on the ballot.
The Alabama special election is to fill the vacancy created when Trump tapped former Sen.
When the people of Alabama elected him to the court again, he was suspended a second time for defying the US Supreme Court's 2015 ruling legalising gay marriage.
Despite the campaign's clear denial of the allegations, several politicians have come forward calling for Moore to step down. They did not have sexual intercourse, the Post said.
The Washington Post reports that Leigh Corfman has accused Moore of kissing her and telling her she was pretty in one encounter and in another encounter removing his clothes, touching her over her bra and underpants, and guiding her hand to touch him over his underwear.
"I wanted it over with - I wanted out", Corfman told the Post she was thinking at the time of the encounter.
In Washington at least, few Republicans came to Moore's defence in the hours after the report was published.
The second time she visited his home, she said Moore took off his clothes, as well as her shirt and trousers, and touched her over her bra and underwear and began guiding her hand toward his crotch.
