New just broke that Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. He is also still attached to appear in a third Sherlock Holmes movie with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. Besides Larson and Law, Ben Mendelsohn is on board to play the villain, because being on board to play the villain is what Ben Mendelsohn does.

Law has been confirmed for the role of Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, which is said to be a mentor of sorts to Larson's Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel as she tries to figure out her newly discovered powers. In that big-budget piece, he will play the younger version of Albus Dumbledore, a role played in the Harry Potter movies by Richard Harris and then Michael Gambon. He is also still attached to star in a third "Sherlock Holmes" film, which Warner Bros.is now developing.

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed Half Nelson. Both of those films are set up at Warner Brothers.
