GameStop Temporarily Suspends Unlimited Used Games Power Pass Program

  • GameStop halts its unlimited used game rental program

Customers looking forward to the rollout of GameStop's new game rental program, PowerPass, will have to press pause on those plans.

For $60, customers could take home one used game at a time and keep it for up to six months. At the end of the period, they could keep any one of the games they had checked out. Those who already subscribed to the service will be refunded.

It's not clear why the retailer is putting PowerPass, which was in the middle of its soft launch, on hold; Kotaku reports that employees have been ordered to remove all signage about the program from stores and put it in the back rooms.

GameStop had delayed the launch of its recently announced PowerPass unlimited game rental service. The service is $60 for 6 months, and you can "check out" a single game at a time. "We feel this is the right thing to do for now to ensure we are able to provide our guests an exceptional service", GameStop told Kotaku. Additionally, GameStop is letting PowerPass subscribers pick up any pre-owned game for free, which is a pretty solid move on the store's part to make up for it.

OnePlus 5T leaked in full ahead of the launch
The main rear camera features a Sony IMX 398 16MP sensor while the secondary rear camera is using an IMX 376K 20MP sensor. OxygenOS based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat is part of the package, as is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 clocked at up to 2.45GHz.

GameStop's all-you-can-eat subscription to used games has been suspended, apparently over concerns with how the aging computer systems in the company's 7,000 stores can handle and track checkouts.

Another source told Kotaku GameStop employees were told to replace the weekly ad and discard the current holiday guide, which is a good indication PowerPass isn't coming back before the end of the year.

As Game Rant first reported, the service, dubbed PowerPass, is slated to launch on November 19 and will cost $60 for six months.

It's understandable for a new program to experience hiccups as it approaches its launch - that's what soft launches are for, after all.
