That's right, Niantic partnered with Warner Bros Interactive in an attempt to hook into Harry Potter's ravenous fan base, just like it did with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company for Pokemon Go. Interactive and its brand new sub-brand Portkey Games. Players will be able to encounter iconic characters from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, cast spells, find fantastic beasts, and team up with others to defeat powerful enemies. As far as I know, there's no way to Pagemaster/Inkheart your way into the wizarding world for real, but the folks behind Pokemon Go are working on the second best thing - bringing the world of Harry Potter to you.

Pokémon Go got its mechanics from the show that inspired it and the console games that came before it, but the Harry Potter books and films don't provide the same simple blueprint.

A year ago developer Niantic Labs gave a glimpse into what the future of augmented reality (AR) gaming could be with the wildly popular Pokémon Go. The incentives it created for exploration, exercise, and real-world social interaction helped spawn a global community of fans, united by their shared experience, and laid the foundations for Niantic's real-world AR gaming platform.

A similar AR-based magical game, called Maguss, has already been made, and is now in early alpha. According to TechCrunch, the new mobile AR game is slated for a 2018 launch. The Harry Potter films, produced by Warner Bros. Because let's admit it: feeling like you're a part of Harry Potter's world does sound pretty freakin' cool.
