  • Game Of Thrones 'HBO' Hacker Has Been Finally Identified And Charged

An indictment unsealed Tuesday in federal court in Manhattan accuses Behzad Mesri of hacking into the cable network's computer system in NY.

But there lies the problem, Mesri is resident in Iran, and though Kim warned of consequences it seems unlikely that USA authorities would be able to arrest him unless he left.

HBO and Game of Thrones makers can heave a sigh of relief, as the hacker who stole scripts and plot summaries of the show has been identified.

An important element in the case was the supposed connection between Mesri and the Iranian government, a line being pushed by the Justice Department.

However, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a wanted poster of Mesri, seeking more information about him and stating that he is wanted for his alleged involvement in crimes including computer fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Back in May, he began reconnaissance work on HBO, looking for restricted parts of the corporate network, before compromising multiple user accounts to obtain unauthorized access to the TV network's servers.

A sealed indictment released on Tuesday by the US Attorney's office in Manhattan charges Behzad Mesri, also known as "Skote Vahshat", with hacking into HBO from May to August and stealing unaired episodes of programs including "Ballers", "Curb Your Enthusiasm", and "The Deuce".

A spokesman for HBO said Tuesday that the company has been "working with law enforcement from the early stages of the cyber incident". The email concluded with an image of the Night King, a character from "Game of Thrones", and said: "Good luck to HBO". "HBO is hacked! Beware of Heart Attacks!".

The alleged hacker broke in to U.S. broadcaster HBO's computer system and demanded a ransom in Bitcoin.

In a July 23 anonymous e-mail sent to HBO, Mesri allegedly threatened: "Yes it's true!"

The hacking took place this year, just as season seven of the hit series was airing, and prosecutors allege Mesri began assessing HBO's online security systems in May.
