  • Microsoft plans upgrade for Redmond headquarters

However, the software giant is not developing a new campus altogether, rather it is planning a significant modernization of its Redmond headquarters, the company told employees on Tuesday, in a post.

In total, the new campus will house the 47,000 employees who work at Microsoft's existing Redmond campus, and add capacity for 8,000 more.

Microsoft plans to move all cars to an underground parking facility and is designing the campus entirely around pedestrians and bikes. The campus revamp promises more natural light and a setting to "foster the type of creativity that will lead to ongoing innovation" writes Microsoft.

Microsoft didn't put an exact price tag on the project, but said it would create 2,500 construction jobs and take five to seven years to complete. There are also plans for a local light rail to take workers to and from locations around the campus.

As part of the project, Microsoft will also tear down older buildings that no longer fit its needs.

Our new buildings will focus on inclusive design and accessible technology to empower all of our employees.

Mesut Ozil 'ill' for Burnley clash as Alexandre Lacazette leads Arsenal line
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was in little doubt over the merit of the stoppage-time penalty which gave his side a last-gasp 1-0 victory at Burnley on Sunday.

Microsoft's video shows how the campus will develop and what it will feature.

The developer of the Spring District, by the way, is Wright Runstad, which back in 1986 built the first six X-shaped buildings that will be replaced as part of this latest renovation. "There's an opportunity to build a somewhat denser campus and create a somewhat more urban feel", Smith said.

The company embarked on its last major campus expansion in 2006, shortly after it signed a 20-year development agreement with the city of Redmond that allowed it to add an additional 2.2 million square feet of space.

Many Americans have never played cricket, but Microsoft does have a lot of employees from India, including CEO Satya Nadella, who's a big fan of the game, and from other former British colonies.

The company also secured a zoning change previous year that allows it to construct some buildings on the east side of its campus up to 10 stories tall, but it said it has no plans for that height now.
