Second Woman Claims Al Franken Groped Her

  • U.S. Senator Al Franken

The allegation follows a an article published Thursday in which Leeann Tweeden, a radio news anchor in California, wrote that Franken forcibly kissed her in 2006.

Another woman has come forward with accusations of sexual misconduct against Democratic Senator Al Franken, just days after he apologized for a previous offense.

Franken said he didn't remember taking the photo but that he felt "badly" that Menz felt disrespected. When her sister observed how close together she and Franken were posing, Menz responded: "Dude - Al Franken TOTALLY molested me!"

Menz, 33, who now lives in Frisco, Texas, said her father's business was sponsoring a radio booth at the Minnesota fair and that she took photos with several elected officials and political candidates as they stopped at the booth.

The claims have resulted in renewed calls for the senator's resignation, as this incident occurred while Franken was in office.

This past weekend, SNL went after Franken during a Weekend Update segment on sexual harassment.

The letter impart reads, "In our experience, we know Al as a devoted and dedicated family man, a wonderful comedic performer, and an honorable public servant". She said she tried to avoid him after that for the rest of the tour, but on the flight home she had fallen asleep and later found that Franken had arranged a photo of himself on her own phone, in which he appeared to be groping her while she was asleep.

The statement was released Friday, before the second woman's allegations came to light.

Franken's statements have been contrite.

A spokesman for Franken told The Minneapolis Star-Tribune on Saturday that the senator was not going to resign, but the sexual assault claims have made him do "a lot of reflecting" on his actions.

Husband Jerry Menz told CNN that Franken "reached around her and kind of pulled her into him". She added, "It was wrapped tightly around my butt cheek". If the Senate Ethics Committee moves forward with its investigation - a probe that Franken has endorsed and agreed to assist - it may therefore be treated differently.
