Italy's streak of 14 consecutive World Cup appearances is snapped.

Sweden survived wave after wave of Italian attacks at the San Siro.

Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years after being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Sweden, who booked a place in Russian Federation with a 1-0 aggregate win on Monday.

Sweden coach Jan Andersson admitted that his side had to cling on against technically superior opponents. I thank the lads who were with us and, although it wasn't enough, I hope that we gave them something.

Instead, the Azzurri held to a frustrating scoreless draw at home - one that will rule them out of the World Cup finals for the first time since 1958.

Hope Solo Accuses Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter of Sexual Assault
Solo also spoke out about the matter via her Instagram account recently (some words have been edited by LBS). Blatter's representative called the allegation " ridiculous " in a statement to Expresso and The Guardian .

"The first-leg performance shows that we are perfectly capable of overturning the 1-0 result".

The first is that the four-time world champions fail to qualify for Russian Federation 2018 and a curtain falls on the worldwide careers of half the team, including Daniele De Rossi, Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and the icon that is Gianluigi Buffon.

While Pirlo acknowledges that the team "seemed frustrated", he insists that he is quietly confident of them getting through, saying: "I like this Italy".

"It is an important game for the history of our national team". Italy are meanwhile superstars having won the competition four times - 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006 - and lost two finals in 1970 and 1994. "There are another 90 minutes and we want to make the most of it". "We invite them to support us, but realize the time has come for us to show them what we've got".
