  • People Are Calling a Rogue Twitter Employee Who Deactivated Trump's Account a Hero

Some have wondered whether his threatening tweets to North Korea were at odds with Twitter's terms and conditions. Some users voiced fears that future employee interference or technology glitches involving Trump's account could threaten national security.

If things seemed a little off to you, that's because President Donald Trump's Twitter account disappeared for a brief moment around 7 p.m.

A company representative declined to answer questions including how many employees can suspend an account or what special protections there are for high-profile users like Trump. Twitter later said it was deactivated by a customer support employee on his or her last day at the company. "We are conducting a full internal review".

In a tweet on Friday, Twitter said it has "implemented safeguards to prevent this from happening again". Twitter customer support cannot, however, access customers' private direct messages, nor can they tweet on behalf of other users, these people said.

The President believes that his messages began to read.

NBC News has reached out to the White House to clarify if any protocols surrounding the president's use of Twitter have been changed as the result of the incident. The worker was reportedly a contractor, and not directly employed by Twitter, The New York Times reported.

"It's one click if you have the rights to access the tool", the former employee said.

Sean Edgett, Twitter's general counsel, told the U.S. Senate in a recent hearing that the platform has hid tweets containing hashtags that were unfriendly to Clinton from searches.

Twitter initially said the take-down was caused by "human error". "Independent researchers have estimated that up to 15 percent of Twitter accounts - or potentially 48 million accounts - are fake or automated", Mr. Warner said.

The rogue Twitter employee hailed as a social media hero for shutting down the President's account was hired as a contract worker, according to new reports. "The nature of social media, particularly Twitter, is that there are so many feeds and so many sources that one single tweet, even one from the President of the United States, can always be balanced by other inputs".

The statement left many question from the tech community and Washington unanswered, including how many people had access to Trump's account and what were the security protocols in dealing with accounts of influential personalities, especially those related to USA national security.

Early on Friday, Trump tweeted: "My Twitter account was taken down for 11 minutes by a rogue employee".
