When attempting to type the lowercase letter "i", the software attempts to automatically capitalize the letter.

An innocuous yet very annoying bug is affecting some users who have updated to iOS 11.1, which landed last week with hundreds of new emojis in tow.

In a blog post, Apple has acknowledged a problem with the autocorrect feature in iOS 11.1 that is replacing the letter "i" with an "A" accompanied by a symbol. Are these release dates rushed, or are Apple frantically attempting to keep up with user demands and expectations?

Apple confirms it is aware of the bug and says it will be fixed in a future software update. Users can access the Keyboard settings and add a text replacement. But if I copy and paste that text, it pastes out correctly, reverting the A and the icon into the capital I.

But if you are struggling to type the letter "i", follow these steps.

For now, that's all we're going to get in terms of a fix from Apple. Apple will obviously need to push out another iOS update to address the issue, though, in the mean time, it has a workaround for you to try.

Have you experienced the weird iOS 11.1 bug on your iPhone?

Users can also disable predictive text completely, in order to halt the autocorrection.

The BBC has contacted Apple for comment.

The glitch appears to have become widespread following the launch of the new iPhone X on Friday.

"I have a $1150 [$A1495] telephone that can't read the letter "i", he wrote on Twitter, clearly seeing the amusing side of things.

'WTF if wrong with iPhone now and this stupid symbols when I type the letter I!,' user @TheJeanAbraham wrote.
