  • Major airline slips up over annual leave

The carrier and the Allied Pilots Association didn't immediately disclose details of their pact on Friday but said it should ensure that American, the world's largest carrier, will maintain a full December flight schedule.

American Airlines Group Inc. and its pilots union reached an agreement that will allow the carrier to avoid canceling flights during the holiday travel season after it allowed too many aviators to take vacation by mistake. As of Friday, American said it had arranged to have pilots for all but a few hundred flights and was working to fill the rest. It's another example of why we are thankful to have such an incredible team.

An agreement between the airline and the Allied Pilots Association helped to correct the pilot staffing issue, according to American Airlines spokeswoman Alexis Aran Coello. As a result of this error, thousands of flights in December initially did not have pilots assigned to them.

"Out of the 200,000 flights American will operate in December, only a few hundred are now unassigned to pilots", American Airlines said in a statement.

Saying good riddance to a very active 2017 Atlantic hurricane season
Hurricane Nate was a Category 1 Hurricane, and Cindy, Emily, Phillipe, and Nate were Tropical Storms when they moved onshore. Today is the last day of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season. "Unfortunately many of these storms also made landfall".

But despite American's statement, the APA continues to dispute the airline's numbers.

As first reported, the error impacted more than 15,000 flights from December 17-31.

"We remain seriously concerned about the potential for significant schedule disruption for our passengers, pilots, and fellow employees during the critical holiday travel season", the APA added.
