  • Dexter Fletcher has replaced Bryan Singer as the director of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”

The Freddie Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" was shaken this week after the firing of director Bryan Singer, but the show must go on.

Bryan Singer's replacement revealed after the director was sacked earlier this week. And while the finger-pointing between filmmaker and studio continues, 20th Century Fox has already lined up their replacement: Dexter Fletcher, the English actor and director whose most recent credit behind the camera is the 2016 Olympics drama Eddie the Eagle.

The actor turned Bafta-nominated director was previously set to direct the Mercury film only to leave the project in 2014.

Bryan Singer fired from the production of the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody over reported clashes and set no-shows.

Singer was sacked this week after not reporting back to the set after Thanksgiving break; In a statement he said he was caring for an elderly parent and also minimized claims of feuding on set with star Rami Malek.

Malek, who plays Mercury, also reportedly complained to the studio, 'charging Singer with not being present on set, unreliability and unprofessionalism, ' said The Hollywood Reporter. While Singer disputed that account, he did acknowledge that there were "creative differences" but explained that he that he had to "return to the U.S.to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents".

Filming has been taking place in the United Kingdom, with Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello and Gwilym Lee starring as Queen's other members. He also helmed 2013's Sunshine on Leith before his highest profile film, Eddie the Eagle.

The film, about British rock band Queen and its frontman, is expected to be released as scheduled on December 25, 2018.
