With just two weeks of shooting left for Fox's Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody starring Rami Malek, the director Bryan Singer has been fired from his position reports Variety.

'This was a very taxing experience which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health. Producers at the time only said that filming was stopped because of Singer's "unexpected unavailability".

The confrontations between Singer and Malek are said to have never become "physical", but the director did throw "an object" (chair? mic stand? glitter?) at his front man at one point.

With all of the bad things surrounding Hollywood right now in the way of sexual assault and rape allegations, director Bryan Singer has seen his disturbing past allegations resurface. Singer had apparently been warned by Fox before the start of production that the studio wouldn't tolerate any unprofessionalism, and a representative from the Directors Guild of America is said to have been on set to monitor the issue.

The film, a biopic about famed Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, has been in production for a long time with Singer posting many behind-the-scenes images and videos on his Instagram. In a statement, they said simply Singer "is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody".

That prompted the studio to suspend production with three weeks of principal photography left before eventually firing Singer on Monday.

The move comes after Singer failed to return to the set last week after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Additionally, Tom Hollander (About Time, In The Loop), who plays Queen's manager in the movie, quit the production for a short time, also in relation to Singer's on-set behaviour. According to a report by IndieWire, Singer's absence had pushed Malek to complain to the studio. It was at this time Fox made a decision to fire him under his pay-or-play contract.

Although a new director has yet to be confirmed, the movie is still slated for release on Christmas 2018. Singer is known for directing films like The Usual Suspects, X-Men: Apocalypse and Superman Returns.

A source told The News that Singer was sacked for "a pattern of unreliable behavior on set" and that the studio wanted another director to finish the movie.
