  • Dropped Lionsgate has cut its ties to Gotti starring John Travolta just 10 days before the movie's scheduled release date of December 15

Just ten days before John Travolta's Gotti biopic was due to be released, Lionsgate has severed all ties with the project. The Emmett/Furla/Oasis production company now plans to shop it around to distributors for a 2018 release, rather than its planned December 15 date.

Lionsgate did not specify a reason for the sale, Vulture reports, while Deadline report that the sale was due to conflict in the distribution plans for the film. The film's producers felt the same, and activated a buy-back clause in the original deal.

In an interview with Deadline published late last night, Travolta characterised the reports on the film as "speculation bordering on fake news". It also features Travolta's wife Kelly Preston as the crime lord's spouse Victoria Gotti, and their daughter Ella Bleu Travolta as Angel Gotti, as well as Pruitt Taylor Vince, Stacy Keach, Chris Mulkey and Lydia Hull.

He continued: "That is the simple explanation for this". No word yet on why Lionsgate chose to drop the movie, but stay tuned...

Gotti - who died aged 61 of throat cancer in prison in 2002 - was one of the most powerful and risky crime bosses in the world. John said he "begged" them to reconsider and finally they "generously" let it go.

John Travolta's "Gotti" is making headlines for reportedly being dropped from release a mere 10 days before opening in theaters. "We didn't anticipate this speculation that is so grossly wrong", he told the outlet. It was directed by Kevin Connolly from a script by Lem Dobbs and Leo Rossi.
