Two Army jawan were killed after terrorists attacked an army convoy in Qazigund area in South Kashmir.

Earlier the LeT had claimed responsibility for attacking the Army convoy.

Officials say the encounter started after troops chased terrorists who attacked a military convoy that was going from Srinagar to Jammu. One soldier also lost his life in the encounter on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway about 70 km from capital Srinagar.

However, The Hindu reported that two soldiers were injured in the attack.

"The security personnel encircled a house, where the militants had taken refuge".

Director general of Jammu and Kashmir police SP Vaid told HT that the fire had come from a house near Qazigund and the area has been cordoned off.

"The search operation is on", he said in a tweet. Locals said that they heard massive blasts during evening hours and it seemed the building in which terrorists are present have been razed to ground.

"When the militants were challenged, they fired at the security forces, triggering a gunfight which continued for almost four hours".

Meanwhile, people, mostly youths hit the streets, trying to disrupt the search operation in the area.
