  • Union 'not in a position' to cancel strike by Ryanair pilots

Ryanair has agreed to recognize pilot unions ahead of a strike threat by a number of its pilots just ahead of the busy Christmas travel weekend.

But Impact has warned that a meeting on Wednesday would come too late to prevent a 24-hour strike that day.

In a statement IMPACT said it is available to meet with management today or anytime over the weekend.

Unions were yet to give their response but Ryanair's chief executive, Michael O'Leary, said: "Christmas flights are very important to our customers and we wish to remove any worry or concern that they may be disrupted by pilot industrial action next week".

IMPACT says it wants to meet Ryanair sooner rather than later to see if Wednesday's planned strike action by pilots can be called off.

He added: "The earlier we can meet the better".
