Apple also said it paid out developers $26.5 billion in 2017, up from $20 billion in 2016.

Apple also partnered with GE in October to enable developers create a series of industrial apps to iPhones and iPads.

According to the official Buddybuild blog, the company's team is now a part of the Xcode engineering group that builds "amazing developer tools for the entire iOS community".

So, it's clear that the service will remain available for current customers, and company will not accept any new customer.

Apple, whose iPhones have always been outstripped by devices powered by Google's Android in terms of market share, still generates considerably more revenue from apps than the latter. It is a startup company based in Vancouver.

Dennis Pilarinos and Christopher Stott founded the startup in 2015. Essentially, the company is "focused on continuous integration and debugging tools" to provide support to app developers, notes the report.

Developers favor Buddybuild, as the tool affords them quick and easy deployment of mobile applications through multiple channels such as GitHub, BitBucket, or GitLab. In a business sense, Apple buying Buddybuild is a move to beef up the iOS ecosystem against rival Android by Google. Thus, it just makes sense that Apple wants to ensure that its platform and apps remain developer-friendly. Apple keeps 30% of the revenue generated by paid apps purchased in the App Store, leaving 70% for developers. After all, not even the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed yet. Back in 2014, Apple acquired Burstly, which made TestFlight, a popular beta testing platform. Since its establishment, the startup has managed to raise around $8.8 million. On paper, at least, Buddybuild would add to what TestFlight now offers with a deeper range of developer options and support for app developers covering Apple's range of mobile operating systems.

Stewart Butterfield, co-founder of the photo sharing website Flickr and workspace messaging app Slack, has served as an adviser for Buddybuild. However, after the acquisition, the start-up would no longer offer Android and Free Starter services starting March 1.
