  • Padman shifts release date because of Padmavati

Yes, a release date has finally been locked in, and it's January 25 the coveted Republic Day weekend when Akshay Kumar's R Balki starrer Pad Man, not to mention Neeraj Pandey's Aiyaary were already scheduled.

Addressing the media, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, national president of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena said, "Let me make it loud and clear that India will burn if the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), producers or cinema hall owners release the film on January 25". Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial film, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, is set to release on January 25.

The Rajput community in Rajasthan carried out a protest at several places against the alleged "distortion of history" in the film that was earlier named Padmavati after the Rajput queen whose place in history is disputed.

The troubles continued and didn't seem to end any sooner and also witnessed increasing threats against the director of the film and the actors.

Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, stated that since it is a great weekend for any film to release, he would be happy if Padmavati releases too. The never ending wait for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati (now Padmavat) is now over.

Padmavati has been embroiled in controversies and didn't release as planned on December 1, 2017. The U/A certificate was to be issued once the required changes were made and the final content of the film was submitted to the Censor Board.

Asked about a possible face-off with "Padmavat", Akshay said he was not anxious. However, there are a few changes to the title and it will be released as "Padmavat".

Its release date announcement led to a stir in the film trade circles.

Among the modifications, the body has suggested "to change the disclaimer clearly to one that does not claim historical accuracy" and to further add a point that the film in no manner subscribes to the practice of Sati or seeks to glorify it. I think two big films can come together.

Padmavat features Deepika Padukone in the titular role as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor plays Maharawal Ratan Singh whereas Ranveer Singh will be seen as Alauddin Khilji.
