  • Passenger jet skids off runway stopping just feet from the sea… but all 162 on board survive

Pegasus Flight PC8622, a Boeing 737-800 TC-CPF coming from Ankara, overran the runway at Trabzon Turkey Saturday night and went off a slope.

Dramatic images showed the passenger plane hanging off a cliff several metres from the Black Sea with its wheels stuck in the mud.

None of the 168 people on board was hurt in the incident but passengers spoke of panic as the aircraft tipped nose first towards the sea.

According to BBC news, one passenger, Fatma Gordu said: "We tilted to the side. There was panic, people were screaming", she said, describing the moments of horror. "There has been no loss of life or injury to anyone on board", the statement said.

Turkish Airlines said two inbound flights to Trabzon and a scheduled flight from the city to Istanbul were cancelled as a result of the incident.

"It's a miracle we escaped".

Another unidentified passenger claimed that they waited inside the plane "for at least 20 minutes" before help arrived. "Thank God for this".

"We've taken all necessary measures".

Weather at the time of the incident was light rain, mist and low cloud, conditions which could have reduced runway braking performance.
