Islamic State claims responsibility for deadly Kabul bombing

Pakistan has condemned a suicide attack in Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday in which several people were killed and injured.

So called Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the blast.

According to witnesses, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive while a confrontation between civilians and police forces was going on.

All of the dead were police.

Afghanistan's Interior Ministry spokesman says a suicide bomber has killed six policemen after exploding his devise amid a group of security officials monitoring protests by shopkeepers in eastern Kabul.

The IS group has gained ground in Afghanistan since it first appeared in the region in 2015 and has scaled up its attacks in Kabul, including on security installations and the country's Shiite minority.

This comes as the local residents and eyewitnesses in the area had earlier said that the suicide attack took place at the end of a demonstration in the area.

The attack happened near the U.S. Embassy where security personnel are reported to have been carrying out an operation against illegal drugs and alcohol. It was the third deadly attack claimed by the extremist group in December alone.

On Wednesday, Afghanistan's spy agency announced it had busted a 13-member Isis cell in Kabul that had been planning to carry out "a series of big terrorist attacks" in the city.
