No deal in place for Gerrit Cole

According to multiple reports, the Pirates have reached an agreement to deal ace Gerrit Cole to the world champion Astros.

MLB Network's Jon Morosi was first to report that the teams have agreed to terms on a trade.

Yet Astros owner Jim Crane has been public in his desire to land another quality pitcher, telling MLB.com's Alyson Footer on Monday the team is "actively pursuing a high-end starter". Passan did note that "generally, this sort of thing winds up with a deal being consummated". His best season came in 2015, when he posted a career-high 19 wins and career-low 2.60 ERA en route to his only all-star appearance.

When the Houston Astros won the World Series, people weren't just celebrating in Houston. It's less clear how badly the Pirates need outfield prospects given the presence of Austin Meadows, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco.
