  • BB&T Massive bank cyber-service outage continues customers upset

Some of the services include online banking, the mobile banking app, ATMS and the automated Phone24 service.

If clients incurred fees directly related to this outage, BB&T said it will waive or reimburse those fees.

"The issue we're working on was caused by an equipment malfunction in one of our data centers".

As of 10:30am CT Friday morning, BB&T notified customers all banking services have been restored.

Millions of BB&T customers were unable to access their accounts after a service outage which the bank blames on an equipment malfunction. The bank said balances and transactions will become current later in the day.

The bank says customers can still use their debit, credit and prepaid cards. "You claim to "hear" our frustrations yet you don't address that which we are frustrated about".

At this time, BB&T says they have no reason to believe this issue is related to cyber security. "We will continue to provide updates here and on http://BBT.com", officials with the Winston-Salem-based bank wrote Thursday night on Twitter.

The bank operates more than 2,100 branches spread across 15 states as well as Washington, D.C. It's now ranked as the 15th largest bank in the United States with assets of at least $220 billion (£157.5 billion) as of September 2017.
