It's a real thing, and it happened to an Arizona woman who has never even left the country. "I don't know", Myers tells KNXV.

The mom (or "mummy", as one of her daughters now calls her) and former Texas beauty queen has had three accent changes in the past, she told ABC15.

Myers has gone to sleep with blinding headaches and then woke up with different accents - Irish, Australian, and British.

"She complained bitterly of constantly being taken for a German in the shops, where consequently the assistants would sell her nothing", neurologist Georg Herman Monrad-Krohn wrote in the first detailed case report on Foreign Accent Syndrome. After the last incident, the mother of seven has been left sounding like a regular Brit for two years. But two years ago she went down with a crippling headache and woke up with the British accent she's had ever since. I try to explain that I am American and they say, 'Why, because you got your green card?' thinking I'm foreign, but have married a USA citizen. "When I was a little girl I used to always go to my mom and say, 'my bones hurt", she said. Several other sufferers of Foreign Accent Syndrome have captured worldwide attention in recent years, such as 48-year-old Terri White from Yorkshire in Northern England.

Myers also has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a condition that causes bruising and painful joints - and it turned her accent British.

Myers was sitting on her backyard porch swing watching her children play when she felt a sharp pain in her head.

"I was Miss Black Austin Texas when I was younger, but I feel like I'm not that person anymore", she added. As she watched a video of herself speaking normally with ABC, she stated that "I'm sad..." She felt like a different person and it took her some time to define her identity.

She's loves spending time with her seven kids, listening to them sing and play instruments. Affected people may also cut out articles such as "the" and drop letters, turning an American "yeah" into a Scandinavian "yah", for instance.

"Some people think it's physiological; others think it's psychological", Myers said of FAS.

"The person I am now has been through so much, compared to the person here".

"I believe everything happens for a reason, so, maybe this happened because it helps me to break the ice with people", she said.
