  • Nintendo Switch Surpasses 14.86 Million Consoles Sold Since Launch

The Kyoto-based company raised its profit forecast for the year ending March to ¥160bn, from ¥120bn, versus analysts' estimate of ¥144bn.

Nintendo reported the following results for the three months to the end of December 2017. It also makes last quarter Nintendo's most profitable in eight years. This was the highest ever it has earned for the October-December period since 2009.

The company of 116.50 billion yen (£755m, $1.07 billion), up from 32.26 billion yen a year ago.

If you needed any more proof that the Nintendo Switch is a rip-roaring success (which you really didn't), Nintendo has revealed that its new console, which only launched in March of previous year, has already outsold the Wii U in terms of total sales.

The report did note that there was one major Pokemon game with a firm release date. With third-party game developers not expected to release blockbuster titles for the Switch until at least 2019, 2018 could bring a drop off in sales.

Over the course of its young life, we've seen a number of different fighting games released on the Nintendo Switch, and there are still more on the horizon.

The Switch has already surpassed the Wii U in terms of numbers and if the numbers stay on track, the console is well on its way of catching up to Microsoft's Xbox One. In fact, sales for the 3DS grew in the US during the holiday season.

Plenty to keep you and your Switch going far into 2019.

The device's core concept, which allows it to be both a portable handheld and a docked home console connected to a television, was a hit with players and the wider games industry.

Nintendo has managed to sell 14.86 million units of Switch in a matter of 10 months of being in the market. While Wii U sales figures for the past two months aren't available, it's unlikely the moribund console has made up the difference.
