  • Icon’s house printer the Vulcan

The strength of the printed walls are said to be stronger than cinderblocks after a few days of hardening, but the house is entirely habitable after it's been set up. A Silicon Valley-based company is using the technology in hopes of solving the financial housing crisis that has left a billion people without shelter. ICON and New Story worked in close partnership with several other organizations to develop the Vulcan printer including Pump Studios, Yaskawa Electric, Alchemy Builders, TreeHouse, Andrew Logan Architecture, Linestar Automation and The University of Texas.

The company, called ICON, has developed a method for printing a single-story 60sq m house out of cement in less than 24 hours - and for about half the cost of other, similar methods.

Around 1.2 billion people on the planet live without adequate housing as per a World Resources Institute's Ross Center for Sustainable Cities Report. The company claims that "It's much cheaper than the typical American home".

'Icon aims to change this, ushering in a new era in construction to meet the needs of the future'.

With this proof-of-concept, both the companies now plan to build such small, inhabitable houses for the deprived families in El Salvador and Haiti.

ICON hopes to create sustainable and quality homes accessible to everyone in partnership with housing solutions nonprofit New Story.

Arsenal silence doubters again, Cech marks a milestone
He had to wait a while for that, and it was quite fortunate it came against Deeney. "Of course it plays a part". For the experienced Cech, it was his first penalty save since 2011 when playing for Chelsea against Fulham.

Icon first creates a schematic, which is then fed into a computer that instructs the printer how and where to place the cement. The model features a living room, bathroom, a curved porch, and bedroom.

3D-printing has turned out to be more available all around the world, be that as it may, the appropriation of any vast scale usage of 3D-printing innovation is as yet a test. 3D printing innovation empowers you to deliver complex (practical) shapes utilizing less material than customary assembling strategies and it is additionally time effective. The technology also tends to reduce waste and manual labor costs. ICON is focused on creating homes in parts of the world that don't have the economic wherewithal to house the poverty-stricken.

Speaking to The Verge, one of the company's three founders, Jason Ballard, said competition is stiff in the emerging market of 3D printed homes. For this venture to succeed, they have to be the best houses...

Even though the machinery used in 3D-printing is quite costly, however, the materials can be affordable.
