It's possible Apple will redesign the headphones again before launch, or scrap the project altogether, they warned, asking not to be identified discussing private development work.

Apple-owned Beats now sells high-end on-ear headphones that you can find inside the company's own retail spaces, however, a recent report suggested that Apple is developing its own-brand high-end headphones that it's going to launch later this year.

With the extremely popular AirPods and newly released HomePod, Apple has swiftly invaded the audio industry. According to reports, Apple is seeking to capitalize off of the AirPods' success by launching its very own premium on-ear headphones.

"With a use case centering on frictionless access to Siri and other tasks initiated by voice, AirPods really act as an extension of the iPhone", wrote NPD Executive Director Ben Arnold in a August 2017 report.

Apple previously discarded the Beats Music streaming name when it launched Apple Music in 2015.

Currently, the headphones are set to target the high-end of the market. The said headphones are speculated to be targeted at the high-end of the market with features such as wireless pairing. There's been no indication yet on when, if ever, Apple would release these headphones. The Apple headphones will likely use similar audio technology, driving up costs.
