Google just expanded its Instant Apps program, which TechCrunch calls "a way for developers to give users a native app experience that didn't involve having to install anything".

Android users can already try a small selection of games in the Google Play Store that load up their full experience without needing to go through the normal install process. At its 2018 developer keynote, Google today unveiled an extension of Instant Apps aimed at games. With Google Play Instant, you can just tap and try a game without having to download it first-whether you're looking to storm a castle on Clash Royale or become a wordmaster with Words with Friends 2. Some games that now support Play Instant include Clash Royale, Words with Friends 2, Bubble Witch 3 Saga and Panda Pop, as well as a few other titles from Playtika, Jam City, MZ, and Hothead. Now it's time for the next evolution of this feature, with the debut of Google Play Instant for games. New tags like "New" or "Action" make it easier to find a particular type of game.

Back in December, Google had said in a blog post that new apps submitted to Google will have to target Android versions no more than a year old.

During the last December, Google demands its developers to apps which are one year older should be present in the store. Offering a way for users to try them out before downloading could help boost the number of users. To do this, the team is adding a new "arcade" tab in the newly redesigned Google Play Games app to highlight the current crop of Instant games and launching an Instant Gameplay collection in the Google Play Store. They have since expanded instant apps, but this is the first time they are bringing games into the fold.

At GDC, Google is also updating the Play Console with a new internal testing track "to quickly test and iterate on new games and features". In time, however, you should start to find nearly all of the Google Play catalogue working in the same way.
