The Mariners have not made the postseason since Ichiro's prolific rookie season in 2001. It's one of the largest ever for a player with less than a full year of service time.

After coming close to losing him to another league because this offseason won't give us any fun or good free agent signings, it looks like Ichiro will be staying stateside to play baseball this year after all.

The news comes as the Mariners learned they'll be without outfielder Ben Gamel for four to six weeks due to a strained right oblique muscle.

Paul DeJong and the club have agreed to a contract extension that was finalized Monday morning when DeJong passed a physical, two sources have confirmed early Monday morning. He joins first baseman Ryon Healy on the list of notable Mariners injuries in Spring Training, though Healy, unlike Gamel, could potentially be ready for Opening Day.
