  • Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers during a game against the Detroit Pistons

In his essay, "Everyone Is Going Through Something", the National Basketball Association standout opened up about his panic attack November 5th, during a game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The 29-year-old self-described introvert says that he had a panic attack following halftime of a November 5 game against the Atlanta Hawks. In the article, Love speaks about the issue of mental health that affect millions across the nation, and the stigma attached to it that makes it hard for men to address the issue head-on. So I did one seemingly little thing that turned out to be a big thing. That's why I didn't realize until after I finished reading Love's Players' Tribune piece that tears were streaming down my face.

What Kevin Love and DeMar DeRozan are speaking on is a truth that transcends any income bracket, quality of life, or circumstance. "We're human beings, so I appreciate him".

"For 29 years, I thought about mental health as someone else's problem", he said.

In an open letter on The Players' Tribune, Love broached the subject of his mental health, revealing that on November 5, during a home game against Atlanta, right after halftime, he suffered a panic attack.

It all starts with free agency, but the 2018 NFL Draft is filled with prospects that can help this team build for the future. The Broncos spent a first-round pick on Paxton Lynch just two years ago, but he has not developed in the way Denver hoped.

You can not tell what someone else is going through just by looking at them; mental health is a concern for rich and poor, male and female, healthy and sickly.

In his essay, titled "Everyone Is Going Through Something", Love says he has begun seeing a therapist. I knew that much. I didn't even know if they were real. This led to some of the other players being angry with Love, who then reportedly came clean about his panic attacks.

I'm trying to face the uncomfortable stuff in life while also enjoying, and being grateful for, the good stuff. Now as I fought back vomit, there was nothing I wanted more than to be indistinguishable. "Since that day, nearly everything about the way I think about my mental health has changed". I played 15 minutes of the first half and made one basket and two free throws.

"I had buried those emotions since her passing and said to myself, I have to focus on basketball". It was then he realised he had experienced a panic attack.

"It's hard to describe, but everything was spinning, like my brain was trying to climb out of my head", said Love, a five-time All-Star now sidelined after breaking his left hand last month. It's here as I type, wondering who might read this and immediately think less of me. I want to share some of my thoughts about my panic attack and what's happened since. But I didn't share - not to my family, not to my best friends, not in public.
