  • Murder of Mexican journalist Leobardo Vazquez

In a Facebook post from Ashli Peterson, a relative, the family left the USA on March 15 for Tulum, Mexico.

Creston Police Chief Paul Ver Meer said they started investigating and determined the Sharp family did not got on their flight from Cancun back to the United States.

Autopsies are being performed in Mexico, according to Union County authorities.

The Sharp family was on vacation in Mexico.

"On behalf of the family at Southwestern Community College and the entire Spartan nation we thank you for honoring the Sharp family".

Right now, the Sharp's relatives are asking for their privacy.

"There has still not been any contact from them", she wrote on Facebook. They were hoping to find answers. We have filed a missing persons report through the US Embassy in Mexico already. Pinging the family's cellphones showed them still in Mexico and not moving. Social media is also inactive. There was no foul play!

"The Sharps have been located".

State police said Leobardo Vazquez was found dead late Wednesday in the town of Gutierrez Zamora, which is located in an area known for drug cartel activity. News reports quickly followed, also noting that foul play was likely not a factor. "At this time that is all the information we have". "Out of respect for the family during this hard time, we have no further comment".

Amy Sharp's sis, Renee Hoyt, informed the Creston News Advertiser that the Sharps' last interaction happened on March 15. "That is the last communication she made".

Other members of the Sharp family reported them missing to Creston Police around midnight Friday morning.

The fact that the family didn't post any vacation pictures to Facebook or have their cellphones only heightened the worry.

The day after the Sharps left, the U.S. State Dpartment issued a travel warning for Americans to "exercise increased caution" when traveling in Mexico because of violent crime. Inside, they found the bodies of the Sharp family.

Ivonne Hernandez Duran, Vazquez's wife, said she heard shots and found her husband lying near a taco stand he operated out of his home.

It's not known how the family, from the USA state of Iowa, died.
