  • Every Oculus Rift VR headset bricked due to expired certificate

Oculus forum user Mace404 shared a screenshot that suggested the issue may be caused by an expired certificate.

At the moment, some Rift owners are experiencing an issue where their VR headset gets stuck displaying a black screen when a PC wakes from sleep.

"We are aware of and actively investigating an issue impacting ability to access Rift software", reads a post from Oculus staff on its official forums. "Our teams apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing you and appreciate your patience while we work on a resolution". Oculus acknowledged the issue on Twitter and said it is working to fix the problem.

For now, there's no timeline on a fix, but Oculus says it will update that support thread as it learns more.

Sessions Traveling To California For Major Sanctuary Announcement
Now, the administration is seeking to block three California laws by arguing that they violate the Constitution and federal law. Jeff Sessions is suing CA because we refuse to help the Trump administration tear apart honest, hardworking immigrant families.

We aren't quite sure when the problem will be fixed but it is affecting all the current Oculus Rift users. The reason comes down to a simple security certificate. Recently, a "black screen of death" began affecting users, and so far, the finger is being pointed at recent Nvidia driver updates as well as the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update from a year ago.

If you're having trouble with your Oculus Rift today, then you're not alone.

Some users have changed their system clocks to before when the certificate expired as a temporary workaround, but I wouldn't advise it.

Oculus hasn't given us a direct reason for this problem yet, but VR Focus reports that users and developers may have figured it out.
