Butler broke into the league in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of Division II West Alabama. slowly earning Bill Belichick's trust before stepping up to intercept Russell Wilson late in the fourth quarter of a 28-24 Super Bowl win. Butler spent the past four seasons with the New England Patriots. He played only one snap - on special teams - in New England's 41-33 loss to Philadelphia.

At that point, no one knew if Butler would remain a flash-in-the-pan Super Bowl hero or make something of himself.

Meanwhile, according to Pro Football Weekly, the Texans are "in on" Butler after quietly expressing interest last offseason when he was a restricted free agent.

Despite the highly-publicized matter, Butler received plenty of interest in free agency.

The Titans ranked 13th in total defense and improved slightly against the pass, giving up 239.3 yards through the air to move from 30th in 2016 to 25th overall. He was benched for the Super Bowl in February. Interestingly, Butler was beaten twice for touchdowns by rookie wide receiver Corey Davis in the Patriots' divisional-round victory over the Titans.

After the game, Butler told ESPN's Mike Reiss and Schefter that the Patriots "gave up" on him.

Per NBC Sports Boston, the Lions - who are led by a pair of ex-Patriots in head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn - are "quite interested" in Butler's services.

It's worth noting that his new contract numbers will mirror those that the Saints were willing to shell out, per Rapoport, had they reached a trade agreement with the Patriots last summer.
