Vikings Are Taking A Shot At Drew Brees

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network said the Vikings reached out to representatives for several quarterbacks as the NFL free-agent negotiating window began Monday afternoon. But it's now completely legal for any National Football League team to call Brees's agent, make a contract offer and try to get him to change his plans about where to go next. They have already been linked to keeping each of their free agent quarterbacks as well as at least one big name outside the team. But Brees has yet to come to terms with the Saints, leaving the door open for the Vikings and other teams to reach out.

Prevailing belief is still that the Saints and Brees will agree to a deal before Wednesday. Also, because of the complex way his contract was structured to help the Saints' salary cap in previous years, if Brees' contract voids it will count as $18 million in dead cap space for the Saints in 2018, according to Nola.com. They were said to be going hard after free agent Kirk Cousins.

In his career, Brees has thrown for more than 70,000 yards and almost 500 touchdowns.

Quebec's aluminum industry gets temporary relief from Trump's tariffs
Zypries told Deutschlandfunk radio that so far no tariffs had been imposed and it was too early to talk about a looming trade war. Many Republicans have spoken against the plan, and Trump economic adviser Gary Cohn resigned Tuesday over policy differences.

Strief was a rookie in 2006 when the team went to the NFC Championship game, only to fall one win shy of a Super Bowl. But if Brees suddenly becomes available, it would certainly behoove both Minnesota and Brees to seriously consider each other as a possible match. But Brees is much, much more than a quality starting quarterback - he's an elite, future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.

Brees re-structured his contract to cut a cap hit in 2016 almost in half, pro-rating a signing bonus of $18 million over three years, starting in 2018.

The situation is worth monitoring as the legal tampering period arrives.
