It was an incredible night at the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after Barcelona and Manchester City - two clubs deemed favourites to lift the title due to their league dominance - were eliminated in the quarter-finals stage - by AS Roma and Liverpool - leaving the entire football fraternity baffled with the results.

Kostas Manolas sent Roma through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after an incredible 3-0 victory over Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday, April 10, saw them overhaul a 4-1 first-leg deficit and advance on away goals.

Dzeko was sublime throughout and netted early before winning a penalty after the break for De Rossi to pull Roma to within one goal of the last four.

Roma's Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro Florenzi celebrate after the match.

He was invited to watch the match by Roma president Jim Pallotta, who knows Ferguson well having previously attended a Boston Celtics basketball game with the veteran Scot.

Per Sport's Victor Vallespir, the former said it was a "sad day" for the club and added: "The message is that we're sorry for all Barca fans around the world".

Antoine Griezmann salvages point in Madrid derbi at Bernabeu
Real Madrid's shout for a penalty was waived off by the referee and Marco Asensio struck the woodwork. Zinedine Zidane's men now trail Atletico by four points with just seven La Liga games to play.

And then it was Dzeko's turn to twice go for goal with his head; the first effort forcing Ter Stegen to turn the ball over the top, while the second looped awkwardly behind.

They haven't conceded a goal at home in the whole competition and on Tuesday restricted Barcelona to just three shots on target despite the potent attacking firepower boasted by Ernesto Valverde's side.

He has done an excellent job overall at the Camp Nou; his side-despite being far from a vintage outfit-are in the Copa del Rey final and are seven matches away from going the season unbeaten in La Liga, which they're set to win comfortably. "They were very strong with second balls and we aren't used to defending like that".

The highly entertaining fixture took a massive turnaround as Lionel Messi was lucky not have received a red card after tripping Aleksandar Kolarov from behind but was booked in the 62nd minute.

The scenes in the stadium and the Roma dressing room were also a joy to behold. "We so wanted to win this tournament but we've failed to do so again".

Beating one of the giants from Spain, who hammered Italy 3-0 in qualifying for this year's tournament in Russian Federation, will be particularly sweet, especially after champions-elect Juventus were bashed 3-0 on their own patch by Real Madrid last week.
