"I was devastated and depressed", he told Express.

Johnson - known to many by his ring name "The Rock" - said he got to the stage in his life where he "didn't want to do a thing or go anywhere". Later when he wanted to pursue football professionally, his dreams were smashed to smithereens after he received injuries that stopped him from reaching his ultimate goal.

On top of that, it was around the same time in his life that he broke up with his girlfriend, which plummeted him into a very dark place. Despite blogging about mental health for nearly seven years, he says talking to someone new about his experiences for the first time can still make him feel anxious.

Dwayne, on Twitter Monday, shared an article about his remarks on his depression and his mother's suicide attempt. That particular post garnered 1.5 million likes and over 10,000 comments and expressions of support.

"She got out of the vehicle on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic", he told the Express.

The "Rampage" star says both he and his mother have gone on to find happiness, and she has blocked the memory of her then 15-year-old saving her from swerving cars and trucks.

"... I'm at the point right now and recognize that I have no experience in public office", he said.

He added that staying faithful can help a person survive depression.

Johnson says "depression never discriminates". "Have faith that on the other side of your pain is something good". While the research is somewhat scattered, current estimates suggest 10% of men living in the US struggle with this mental health issue.

Dwayne, who dominated the WWE throughout the '90s and early 2000s before becoming a Hollywood star, said that he had a secret battle with depression and said he was in a bad place mentally after his dreams of becoming an National Football League star were ruined due to multiple injuries.
