Guardiola: Man City must be "almost perfect" to advance

  • Aguero and Salah go head to head

City face the daunting prospect of overturning a 3-0 deficit from the first leg of their quarter-final tie at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, after goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane put Liverpool in control.

Salah, Liverpool's top scorer with 38 goals to his name this season, had been a fitness doubt after picking up a groin injury in the 3-0 victory over City in the first leg.

Liverpool "can beat anyone", says John Arne Riise, with Jurgen Klopp's side capable of winning the Champions League in 2018.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho claims that Liverpool are a "long ball" team ahead of their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

"We will conduct enquiries to identify who was responsible and bring them to justice".

'Obviously, we are bothered by the last two games. I am so delighted to lose the way we lose against United.

"Of course, to go through you have to make nearly the ideal game - create chances, be clinical and concede few chances", Guardiola said during a press conference.

'If now we are in a situation where we have a chance to go through to the semi-finals of the Champions League and to win the Premier League trophy is because we did a lot to deserve it.

Antoine Griezmann salvages point in Madrid derbi at Bernabeu
Real Madrid's shout for a penalty was waived off by the referee and Marco Asensio struck the woodwork. Zinedine Zidane's men now trail Atletico by four points with just seven La Liga games to play.

"All the conditions have to be nearly flawless for us to go through because the first result was tough". "The result is tough but we have 90 minutes and in football anything can happen". That is the best way to play.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday, Riise said: "City lost against Liverpool, they lost against United, Liverpool have a habit of always scoring". But we can't make a big deal of this and forget all the great things we have done until now.

So how does van Dijk feel about his manager now that he's had a few months to get used to him?

'From the beginning until the end, we must think about scoring and play our football.

Last week's first-leg shellacking at Anfield was preceded by ugly scenes outside the ground when the City bus was attacked by Liverpool fans.

Asked if he was anxious about City fans potentially seeking revenge, Guardiola said: "Since I have been here it has never happened in the Etihad Stadium".

"This behaviour by a number of people who threw bottles, cans and pyrotechnics towards the bus is completely unacceptable".
