Royce Freeman, who rushed for 5,621 yards in his four-year career in Eugene, was selected by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 2018 National Football League draft.

It took 24 picks for a wide receiver to finally come off the board in this year's NFL Draft, but the floodgates opened in round two.

John Elway has added size, strength and seasoning to the Denver Broncos' roster after spending much of the last two drafts taking chances on players who had lighter resumes and more question marks.

In hopes of bolstering their passing game, the Denver Broncos selected former SMU wide receiver Courtland Sutton No. 40 overall in the second round of the 2018 National Football League draft on Friday.

The versatile Sutton prides himself on garnering attention no matter where he lines up, but he's admittedly still a work in progress and eager for mentoring by Thomas and Sanders.

Since the 2010 draft, 20 quarterbacks have been selected in the first round and only Cam Newton has led his team to a Super Bowl. This year's draft is especially interesting because there are so many questions marks surrounding who is going to go where.

Recruited out of high school as a safety, Sutton was moved to wide receiver by former Mustangs head coach June Jones, who saw his ball skills and figured he'd be more productive on offense.

Last season, he caught 68 passes for 1,085 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Leading up to the NFL Draft, the Broncos were expected to target offensive prospects early and often. All of this could see Sutton land in Dallas if he is still available when the Cowboys are on the clock on Friday night. We're excited about him.

Chubb, a defensive end at North Carolina State, will play outside linebacker in Denver, where the Broncos believe his dogged determination and relentless motor will help their defense return to dominance. I always wanted to be around the ball. I have to play hide-and-go-seek with you guys all the time when it comes down to who we're going to pick.

Elway reiterated his excitement for Chubb on Friday - "We really feel that he's going to have a tremendous career", he said - with expectations Chubb will contribute immediately among a deep group of Broncos' edge rushers such as Miller, Shaquil Barrett and Shane Ray. "When they were coaching me, I took every single tip they gave me and ran off with it".
